The
Starcade houses a large collection of video games. There are about 80
games to choose from, ranging from fighting games to "side-scrollers" to
driving games. All the games are housed in identical cabinets, the only
exterior differences being the physical controls (steering wheels for
driving games, for example). Unlike the Starcade at Disneyland in
California, Tokyo Disneyland's Starcade has no pinball machines or air
hockey tables.
One of the neat things about the Starcade (or one of the lame things,
depending on your point of view) is most of the games you'll find here are
vintage—classics like Pac Man, Galaga, Frogger, Arkanoid and even Space
Invaders. Many of the newer games have on-screen directions in Japanese,
and if you can't read Japanese and you're not already familiar with the
games you may be totally lost.
Each game in the Starcade costs 100 yen (about $1), typical for a Japanese
arcade. If you're a fan of vintage video games you might want to stop in and take
a peek at the Starcade, but everyone else will want to pass this one
by—there are many more interesting things to see at Tokyo Disneyland. |
