The
official name of this shop is "Chiba Traders — Arts and Crafts." With a
name like that you might think this place would carry pottery clay,
crocheting needles, and white glue. Actually, Chiba Traders is a
shop that sells traditional Japanese souvenir merchandise. Here's you'll
find dolls, wooden children's toys, and other uniquely Japanese items.
If you're only going to be in Japan for a day or two, are visiting Tokyo
Disneyland, and want to bring
home some traditional Japanese souvenirs without the Tokyo Disney Resort
logo on them, Chiba Traders is a good choice. However, if you're going to
be in Japan for several days you should really make a trip to the town of Asakusa.
Only a short train ride from Tokyo Station, it is a must-see for any and
all tourists, and the best place in the greater Tokyo area to buy
traditional Japanese souvenirs. Any Tokyo guidebook will tell you how to
get there.
A little something interesting about the name of this shop: Chiba is the
prefecture in which Tokyo Disneyland is located (yes, Tokyo Disneyland is
technically not in Tokyo, but "Tokyo Disneyland" sounds a lot better than
"Chiba Disneyland", don't you think?). |
